**Steamboat Springs, Colorado-October 6, 2026-**What does it take to keep a community running every day? How do city services work together to meet the needs of residents, visitors and businesses? And what goes on behind the scenes to deliver those services while being good stewards of public resources?
Now in its 12th year, City 101 brings community members and city employees together for a series of interactive, full-day sessions from December through May. Participants hear directly from city leaders and employees, visit city facilities, participate in hands-on activities and see firsthand the work that goes into providing essential services and responding to the community's needs.
The program is about more than learning how individual city services work. It provides a broader look at how the organization functions as a whole, how different areas work together and the many considerations that go into serving a community like Steamboat Springs.
“City 101 gives people a rare opportunity to get the inside scoop on how their city actually works,” said Grants and Project Management Specialist Ginger Scott. “Most people experience city services every day without seeing what happens behind the scenes. City 101 opens that door, giving participants a firsthand look at the people, decisions and operations that keep Steamboat Springs running.”
The city is accepting applications for the 2027 City 101 leadership program, an immersive experience designed to give participants a deeper understanding of local government, city operations and the people who serve the community.
Sessions are held on select Wednesdays from December through May, typically from 8:30am to 3:30pm. The program includes field trips, forums, interactive activities and live demonstrations.
“City 101 completely transformed how I see our community and the dedicated people who keep it running,” said a recent participant. “I gained a deeper appreciation for how every department fits together and the tremendous effort required to deliver high-quality services on a limited budget. Meeting staff and learning about their work firsthand highlighted the pride, expertise and passion they bring to serving Steamboat Springs. The program left me with greater gratitude, stronger connections and a clearer understanding of the complexity behind keeping our city safe, efficient and thriving.”
Applications for the 2027 class are due November 4, 2026. Interested community members can learn more about City 101 and apply at steamboatsprings.net/city101. Come see what it takes to serve Steamboat Springs — from the inside.
