Male Arrested for Assaulting At-Risk Adult

Grand Junction, Co – On September 9, 2026, at approximately 5:55 a.m., officers with the Grand Junction Police Department were dispatched to a report of an altercation in the 700 block of 26 ½ Road.

An adult male was involved in a verbal dispute with individuals inside a residence, including an at-risk adult, that escalated into a physical assault. During the altercation, the suspect threatened to kill one of the individuals. The suspect left the residence before officers arrived and was contacted a short distance away. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Miles Costello, became uncooperative, kicking and spitting at officers, and was ultimately taken into custody.

Costello was arrested and transported to the Mesa County Detention Facility where he was booked on the following charges:

  • Crimes Against At-Risk Persons – 2nd Degree Assault

  • Assault – 2nd Degree with Intent to Cause Bodily Injury

  • Assault – 2nd Degree of Police Officer While in Custody

  • Obstruction of Telephone or Telegraph Service

  • Resisting Arrest

  • Harassment

  • Violation of a Protection Order

  • Criminal Mischief

The at-risk adult was transported to the hospital for evaluation of serious bodily injuries sustained during the assault.

The investigation into this assault remains ongoing, and there is no additional information available at this time.
