Montrose County Human Services Now Accepting LEAP Applications for 2026-2027 Winter Season
MONTROSE, COLO. - Montrose County Human Services is now accepting applications for the Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) through April 30, 2027. LEAP is a federally funded program that helps eligible households pay a portion of their winter heating costs.
“Winter heating costs can put a strain on household budgets, especially when families are already managing other expenses,” said Mirian Mason, Montrose County Human Services Manager. “LEAP can help ease that burden, and we encourage anyone who thinks they may qualify to apply.”
LEAP provides financial assistance for various heating sources, including propane, natural gas, electricity, wood and coal. Benefit amounts vary based on household income, heating costs and available funding. Most payments are made directly to the household's energy supplier. Eligible households may also qualify for assistance with furnace repair or replacement and weatherization services.
For the 2026-2027 season, households with incomes at or below 60% of the state median income may qualify. The maximum gross monthly income for a one-person household is $3,774, while a family of four may earn up to $7,258 per month. Applicants must pay heating costs directly or as part of their rent and meet additional eligibility requirements.
Applications are available at Montrose County Human Services, 1845 S. Townsend Ave., or online through Colorado PEAK https://peak.colorado.gov. Applicants should provide proof of household income and their most recent heating bill or rent receipt. Applications will be accepted through April 30, 2027.
