The City of Montrose is pleased to announce that construction of the new roundabout at Rio Grande and East Oak Grove Road is complete and open to traffic. In line with the city’s comprehensive and capital plans, this project is the first phase of a three-part project to eventually extend Rio Grande Avenue south to River Landing and provide a north-south alternative to Townsend Avenue. Future capital projects will complete this extension, but for now the new southern leg of Rio Grande will have no outlet.
As the nearby Public Works Facility wraps up construction in the spring of 2027, the center island and areas surrounding the new roundabout will be fully landscaped. This work will take place from shoulder areas and will not require any additional closures of the intersection.
The city extends a special 'thank you' to the residents of Montrose for their patience throughout the construction project. The city would also like to thank the general contractor, Ridgway Valley Enterprises of Montrose, as well as major subcontractors and project partners to include: Bull-Basin Construction, Road Rx, Martin Paving, Western Milling, Stripe-a-Lot, Summit Services, CC Enterprises, DMEA, Century Link, Charter, ClearNetworx, Black Hills Energy, and Del-Mont Consultants for all helping to make this project a great success.
