Recently, some community members raised questions about the 2026 General Municipal Election. In response, Montrose City Council members requested and received thorough, accurate information about the election from City of Montrose staff members. Each Council member had the opportunity to review information and ask detailed questions.
All five members of the Montrose City Council agree:
Conducting fair, transparent, and accurate elections is one of the most fundamental responsibilities of local government.
The City Council is confident in the accuracy of the final election results.
The City Clerk, the City’s chief election officer, administered the 2026 General Municipal Election with rigorous neutrality to ensure a fair, unbiased, and accurate outcome.
In future elections, the City will ensure that roles and responsibilities of election administration are clear.
The City Council desires improvements in the municipal election process including and not limited to: refined and City-specific agreements, a formalized process for selecting and appointing election judges, and an official space designated by the City Clerk where all candidates will be invited to await results on election night.
City of Montrose staff continue to review City election administration processes, and will share recommendations for improvements with City Council members.
The City Council has the authority to make policy changes to the City’s election process.
