Today’s message is brought to you by the letters L-E-A-P!
You might recognize a few familiar faces—or at least their costumes! Our Delta County Human Services crew is sharing an important neighborhood message: help with winter heating bills may be available.
Colorado’s Low-income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP) helps eligible households pay part of their home heating costs, leaving more room in the budget for groceries, medicine and other everyday needs.
Who can apply?
Renters and homeowners—including working families, seniors and people living alone—may qualify if they live in Colorado, pay heating costs directly or through rent, and meet LEAP’s income and other eligibility requirements.
2026–27 monthly household income limits before taxes:
Household size & Maximum monthly income
1 person—$3,774
2 people—$4,936
3 people—$6,097
4 people—$7,258
Larger households have higher limits. Working households can qualify, too!
What does LEAP cover?
LEAP helps with a portion of your winter heating costs, usually through a payment to your heating provider. Eligible households may also qualify for help repairing or replacing a broken primary heating system. It does not cover the entire heating bill or portable heaters.
How do you apply? Online: Visit cdhs.colorado.gov/LEAP and follow the Colorado PEAK application link.
By phone: Call 1-866-HEAT-HELP (1-866-432-8435) for assistance or to request a paper application.
In person: Pick up or drop off an application at Delta County Human Services, 320 W. 5th St., Delta. Local questions: 970-874-2030.
Have proof of household income and your latest heating bill—or rent receipt if heat is included—ready.
Applications are open through April 30, 2027. You don’t have to wait for a heating emergency to apply.
Be a good neighbor: share this with someone who could use a little help staying warm. 💛
