RIDGWAY TOWN COUNCIL
MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING
MARCH 25, 2026
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was held both in person and via virtual meeting portal Zoom Meeting, pursuant to
the Town’s Electronic Participation Policy.
The Mayor called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m. in the Community Center, 201 N. Railroad
Street, Ridgway, Colorado. The Council was present in its entirety with Councilors Grambley,
Kroger, Montague, Scoville, Schuyler, Mayor Pro Tem Lakin and Mayor Clark in attendance.
Town Clerk’s Notice of Special Meeting dated March 24, 2026.
The Mayor asked the Mayor Pro Tem to chair the meeting since he was participating remotely.
EXECUTIVE SESSION
The Town Attorney asked the Council to enter into a closed session for a conference for the
purpose of receiving legal advice on a specific legal question under C.R.S. 24-6-402(4)(b)
regarding Ridgway Suites LLC dba MTN Lodge and its proposed use and compliance with the
Ridgway Municipal Code.
ACTION:
Councilor Schuyler moved to enter into closed session, Councilmember Montague seconded and
the motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote.
The Council entered into closed session at 6:05 p.m. with the Town Attorney, Town Manager,
Town Clerk and Nicholes Poppe with the law firm of Nathan, Dunn and Mayer.
The Council reconvened to the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m.
POLICY MATTERS
- Consideration of action to file a Complaint for Declaratory and Injunctive Relief against
Ridgway Suites, LLC dba MTN Lodge
There were comments by the Council and discussion ensued pertaining to filing a legal
complaint against Ridgway Suites, doing business as MTN Lodge. It was noted the
importance of defending the land use code, not setting a precedence and payment of taxes
due to the Town.
ACTION:
Councilmember Schuyler moved to proceed with filing a complaint for Declaratory and Injunctive
Relief against Ridgway Suites LLC doing business as MTN Lodge by the close of the day on
March 27, 2026 to allow time to confer with MTN Lodge and its legal counsel. Councilor Kroger
seconded and the motion carried unanimously on a roll call vote.
