Durango, CO: **The Multimodal Division has rolled out a new volunteer program to partner with the community on quick, hands-on projects that improve the safety, accessibility, and enjoyment of Durango’s multimodal infrastructure.
On Oct. 4, 2026, volunteers from the neighborhood, the local Strong Towns chapter, and Bike Durango will be painting two crosswalks crossing East 5th Ave. at 5th St.
On Aug. 11, 2026, volunteers painted a crosswalk at Veterans Way and 12th Street, connecting the Animas River Trail to the Camino Del Rio Hawk Crossing.
“We are excited to enable people to improve the community through volunteer projects. Right now, we are focusing on crosswalk installation but are excited to look at other opportunities,” said Multimodal Coordinator Dylan Cuatt. “These events give our community a way to connect with their neighborhood and get to know other local organizations aimed to improve safety and connectivity”
City staff will provide all necessary equipment to safely install the crosswalks. Volunteers must be 13 or older to participate.
