Trail #403, known as Washington Gulch Trail, ascends from Crested Butte toward Gothic Mountain. The route climbs through spruce and fir forests before reaching a steep, rocky ridge with views of wildflower meadows. The trail reaches an elevation of approximately 11,000 feet. It is rated as moderate to difficult, with a hard physical rating and normal exposure. The trail is approximately 4 miles long and typically takes about 2 hours to complete. Fall hiking is suitable from September through November. Parking is available at the trailhead. The trail is open to pets. Winter access is limited by snow, and the route is not open during winter months. The trail is popular for hiking and mountain biking.
