About
Ameteur Hour is a two-pitch sport climbing route located in Ouray, Colorado, on the Western Slope. The climb is situated on a band of rock at an elevation of 7,835 feet. Access begins at the north end of the Ouray ice rink, starting uphill behind stored hockey goals. Climbers head up a loose hill toward a large pine tree, then ascend a small outcrop to find the first bolt. The route consists of 165 feet of climbing divided into two pitches. The first pitch involves climbing past two bolts on 5.5 to 5.6 terrain to reach an overhanging shelf. The crux involves surmounting this shelf, rated 5.7 to 5.8, though climbers can bypass the hardest section by heading right. The second pitch is short and leads up and right to an anchor. The route features bolted protection for both pitches. Parking is available near the ice rink. The area allows pets. The typical duration for the ascent and descent is about five hours. The route is considered easy for the local grading context.
