Animas Mountain Trailhead Access is a hiking route in Durango, Colorado, located on the north side of town. The trail offers views of the Animas Valley to the north, Hermosa to the south, and the San Juan Mountains. The main route is a 5.4-mile loop with approximately 1,700 feet of elevation gain, reaching a high point of 8,160 feet. Most hikers complete the loop in about three hours. The trail is rated moderate due to its distance and climb, though it remains accessible year-round. A seasonal wildlife closure affects the upper loop from December 1 to April 15. Parking is available at the trailhead near West 4th Avenue. The area supports rock climbing in addition to hiking.
