About

The Arbaney-Kittle Trail (2186.2) is a difficult, 18.7-mile mountain biking route in Aspen, Colorado, situated on the Western Slope. It follows a historic ranching road and pack trail along the ridge separating the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan River valleys. The trail reaches an elevation of 10,693 feet and typically takes about six hours to complete. Most riders travel from east to west, starting near Aspen or Basalt and ending in Basalt. This direction limits climbing while providing a long descent. The trail is accessible from April through October, with parking available at the trailhead. Pets are permitted. The route includes singletrack through aspen groves and dark timber forests, sections of doubletrack, and a half-mile rocky crux requiring a hike-a-bike segment. The first 7.5 miles are open to motorcycles, which helps maintain the trail surface. Views include Ruedi Reservoir, Red Table Mountain, the Elk Range, and Mount Sopris. Riders should be prepared for remote conditions and potential navigation challenges.
