About

Aspen Mountain Summer Road is a steep dirt work road connecting downtown Aspen to the Sundeck atop Aspen Mountain. The route spans 4.9 miles and climbs to an elevation of 7,890 feet. It serves as a direct link between the town center and the ski area infrastructure, passing through open meadows, aspen tree glades, and short sections of timber. The road is classified as difficult due to brutal, continuous steep sections, particularly on the ascent. While the climb is strenuous, descending is often preferred by riders. The surface transitions from pavement to dirt at the lowest ski run meadow. The road is open to motor vehicles, so riders should expect to share the path with jeeps and motorcycles. Access begins at the intersection of South Original Street and Ute Avenue; the road narrows through a dense residential area before becoming dirt. Parking is available at the base. The trail is open from April through October, though the gate at the pavement-to-dirt transition may close during construction or if snow persists. Pets are allowed. The route connects to other trails including Richmond Ridge Road, Midnight Mine Road, and Scotty's Trail at the summit.
