About
Better Than Jail Time is a sport climbing route located in Durango, Colorado, on the Western Slope. The site sits at an elevation of 6,884 feet and offers moderate difficulty routes suitable for climbers with some experience. The specific route is a 50-foot (15-meter) sport climb characterized by whitish, arch-like rock features and sculpted surfaces. It begins in a small rock corridor approximately 20 feet to the right of the Junk Store Chimney. Climbers follow five bolts to a new anchor established in August 2022, with the fourth bolt clipping noted as slightly tricky. The route features an original trad start option just right and up from the main line, leading to a thin crack around 15 feet. Parking is available on site, and the area is pet friendly. The climbing season extends year-round from January through December, though winter conditions may require additional precautions. A typical outing lasts about 4 hours.
