About
Big, also known as The Nipple Arete, is a rock climbing site located near Crested Butte on the Western Slope of Colorado. The climb is classified as moderate and typically takes about four hours to complete. Located at an elevation of 10,565 feet, the site offers parking and allows pets. The route is accessible year-round, though conditions vary with the seasons. Climbers should prepare for snow and ice during winter months and warmer temperatures in summer. The specific climbing feature is a boulder standing approximately 18 feet high, situated on the north side of the Joint Boulder next to a route called Longshot. The starting point is about four feet off the ground, and climbers top out just to the left of Longshot's finish. Protection is provided by pads. Access requires entering from the north because the southern entrance crosses private property, which has restrictions in place.
