Big Blocky is a rock climbing destination located on the Grand Mesa near Grand Junction, Colorado. The site sits at an elevation of 4,743 feet and offers moderate climbing routes suitable for a variety of skill levels. Parking is available on site, and the area permits pets. The primary route is a 50-foot single-pitch trad climb that begins with an offwidth section through vesicled rock. This initial segment transitions into thin hand jams and crack climbing with firm, grippy holds. Protection requires gear ranging from fingers to fists, with #5 or #6 cams recommended for the lower section. The route features a large, detached block that serves as a key feature in the line. Climbers can expect to spend approximately 4 hours on site, including approach and ascent. The climbing area is accessible year-round from January through December. Winter conditions may require additional precautions due to potential icy patches on the approach trail, which takes about 20 minutes from the main parking area. The location offers sweeping views of surrounding mesas and valleys.
