Boulder Gulch and Route 110A Loop

The Boulder Gulch and Route 110A Loop is a 16.7-mile challenging hike located in Silverton, Colorado. The route begins at Silverton Memorial Park and follows a road eastward before transitioning to the Boulder Gulch Trail. The first 1.5 miles are relatively flat, leading to a steady climb on singletrack through mostly exposed alpine terrain. The trail crosses Boulder Gulch creek and ascends to a pass between Storm Peak and Tower Mountain at 13,010 feet. This section features steep switchbacks, cairns for navigation, and frequent small snow patches in mid-June. After the pass, a technical descent leads to Velocity Basin and its lake. The return journey utilizes Route 110A, a dirt road that descends gently back to Silverton. The trail is accessible year-round, though conditions vary with the season. Hikers should expect approximately 11 hours to complete the loop, with water sources available in the Boulder Gulch section. Parking is available near Silverton Memorial Park.
