Burn Hut

The Burn Hut is a backcountry shelter located in the San Juan Mountains near Ridgway, Colorado, at an elevation of 9,940 feet. The site sits on a slope covered in aspen groves and gladed forest, offering views of the Sneffels Range. It serves as the eastern terminus of the Dallas Trail and is part of the San Juan Huts Systems. Access requires a 5.4-mile -by-four road from the junction of CR5 and CR5A near Ridgway, or via the Dallas Trail starting approximately 7 miles south on CR17. The 4x4 road can be impassable when wet. The hut accommodates eight people with padded bunks, a propane stove, a wood stove, and cookware. A creek located 50 yards west of the hut provides water, which users must treat themselves. The area supports hiking, biking, and skiing, with terrain suitable for beginner to intermediate levels. The site is frequently used for multi-day adventures, such as the Sneffels Traverse to the Ridgway Hut.
