Access is via Carbon Junction, with parking available at the trailhead. The trail system is subject to seasonal closures from December 1 to April 15 to protect wintering deer and elk, though specific closure dates can vary slightly by year. The southern end of the trail has been re-routed due to gravel mine expansion. Views to the southwest are noted from the Grandview Ridge area.
