The Cross Mountain Summit Route is a difficult 9.07-mile hike located near Silverton and Rico, Colorado, in the Lizard Head Wilderness. The trail gains 3,847 feet in elevation to reach a summit at 12,703 feet, with an estimated duration of about six hours. Hikers begin in a meadow before entering a pine forest and reaching a junction below Lizard Head Peak. From there, the route involves navigating loose, Class 2+ to low Class 3 terrain to reach the ridge and final summit. The primary reward is exceptional views of Mt. Wilson, Wilson Peak, Gladstone Peak, and Lizard Head. Designated parking is available at the trailhead. While accessible year-round, conditions vary by season.
