Cunningham Gulch Out and Back is a moderate 9,711-foot hike near Silverton on the Western Slope. The trail runs approximately two hours and connects to the Continental Divide Trail within the Weminuche Wilderness. Hikers follow Cunningham Creek past old mining sites, including the Highland Mary Mill, and cascading waterfalls. The route rises through stunted high-alpine growth to reach treeline, offering views of Mount Rhonda, Kendall Peak, and Little Giant Peak. The trailhead offers parking and restrooms. Pets are permitted but must remain under voice control or on a leash. Camping is allowed, though waste disposal rules apply within 100 feet of streams. The area supports pikas and marmots above treeline. Fall conditions typically range from dry to early snowfall, with the trail accessible from September through November.
