About
Dry Fork is a mountain biking loop near Durango, Colorado, offering a reliable climb and a technical descent. The route begins at the Junction Creek Trailhead parking area on County Road 208, accessible via Lightner Creek Road. The initial climb ascends gently through scrub oak, pine, and aspen stands for approximately one mile before reaching a split. Riders turn left to continue on the Dry Fork singletrack, which winds through mixed forest with smooth sections and small rocky obstacles. The trail ends at the Colorado Trail. From there, riders turn right onto the Colorado Trail, pedal uphill briefly, and then descend. This descent is characterized as fast, flowy, and technical, featuring rocks, small drops, and loose dirt. The route connects with Hoffheins Connection, allowing riders to descend further before rejoining the loop. The total loop distance is approximately 8.8 to 9 miles with an elevation gain of around 1,330 feet. The trail is open year-round but is typically ridden from April through October. Access requires a valid Colorado hunting or fishing license or a State Wildlife Area Pass. The drive to the trailhead involves two miles of well-maintained dirt road, navigable by two-wheel-drive vehicles. The trail is shared with hikers, trail runners, and horseback riders.
