About
Duane's World is a 3.2 to 3.3-mile hiking trail located near Gunnison, Colorado, on the Western Slope. The trail sits at an elevation of approximately 7,705 to 8,603 feet and is classified as moderate or intermediate in difficulty. It offers a mellow grade, making it accessible for hikers seeking a manageable climb without the intensity of nearby peak routes. The trail is named after local historian Duane Vandenbusche and is situated at the base of Chicken Wing. Hikers can traverse the route in either direction, with some choosing to create loops by connecting to nearby trails such as Chicken Wing, South Rim, or Contour Trail. Parking is available at the trailhead. The trail allows foot traffic and horses year-round, though usage for dogs is permitted with them leashed. Seasonal restrictions apply to other users: mountain bikes are closed from January 1 through April 30, and motorized vehicles are restricted from January 1 through May 15. From May 1 to May 15, biking is limited to times after 10 am. Foot traffic also observes a no-use window before 10 am from March 15 to May 15. The typical duration for completing the hike is around two hours, though some sources note it can be completed in approximately 18 minutes for faster users. The trail is part of a nonprofit-built system and connects to the broader Gunnison trail network, including access points toward Signal Peak.
