About

Durango Mesa Park: Intermediate Flow Trails is a directional mountain biking route in Durango, Colorado, located just east of downtown. The 5.6-mile trail sits at an elevation of 7,098 feet and typically takes about two hours to complete. Although labeled intermediate in name, the trail carries a difficult rating due to its technical features and physical demands. The route is designed as a one-way downhill experience, accessible directly from the Horse Gulch trailhead. Riders begin with an uphill climb via the Mesa Connector to reach a hub in the meadow. From there, they can choose between descending the Beginner or Intermediate trails or pedaling laps before proceeding up the Meadow Knob Connector. The main segment is the Intermediate Downhill trail, completed in 2023, which features a series of large and medium-sized jumps, tabletops, and sweeping berms. The jump lips are armored with rectangular flat stones to maintain surface consistency. This trail offers more shade than nearby Horse Gulch trails and runs along the edge of a cliff with views toward Smelter Mountain. The descent ends near the mid-point where it reconnects with the Mesa Connector, leading to a shared bi-directional section that returns riders to the parking lot. The park is open from April through October, closing during winter snowfall. Parking is available at the trailhead, and pets are permitted on the trails.
