About

East Face Crack is a single-pitch traditional rock climbing route located in Glenwood Canyon, just outside Glenwood Springs on the Western Slope. The climb is situated on Roadside Fin and faces south, offering a compact 60-foot ascent. The route is rated moderate, typically around 5.8, making it suitable for beginners and those with some experience seeking a straightforward challenge. The climb involves a double crack system featuring reliable hand jams that require solid technique and confidence. A bouldery move at the start tests balance before leading into the crack, ending with a mantle onto an upper ledge. Climbers should bring traditional gear up to three inches in size to secure placements in the crack's variable widths. Parking is available at the site, and pets are allowed. The approach involves a short walk of under a mile on a well-worn trail, keeping the effort focused on the rock rather than the trek. The south-facing aspect and canyon location provide cool weather, with spring and fall offering prime climbing conditions. While the route is accessible year-round, the cool canyon air makes it comfortable even in warmer months.
