The Edge Loop - Lipan Canyon Section is a 3.2-mile difficult hiking trail in Fruita, Colorado, starting at the Book Cliffs overlook above the Grand Valley. The route begins with a loose and rocky descent through piñon and juniper trees on the north side of the road, exiting into a sandy wash in Lipan Canyon. Hikers encounter dense vegetation and rock clusters that require careful navigation, including ducking or wiggling through tight spots. A defining feature is a small slot canyon where the trail offers two descent options: rappelling down two pitches using fixed ropes anchored by bolts and carabiners, or taking a non-rappel route along the slot rim. The rappel option involves a 10-to-12-foot tight first pitch, while the bypass route is steep and rocky but hikeable. The trail continues through the wash with steep walls on the left before ending at an intersection with Edge Cutoff East. The trail is accessible year-round, though conditions are generally dry and clear from April through October. Parking is available at the trailhead.
