The ride begins with a climb up Elbert Creek, featuring technical rock sections and steep grades through aspen groves. At the road intersection, riders turn left onto Elbert Creek Road (FS581) to access the Pinkerton-Flagstaff Trail #522. This traverse section involves smaller climbs and descending elevation toward Goulding Creek. The descent on Goulding Creek is steep and technical, characterized by switchbacks, roots, and rocks. The switchback section lies within a burn zone, where falling scorched timber is a significant hazard. The route is classified as difficult and typically takes about five hours to complete. Elevation reaches approximately 6,534 feet. The trail is accessible from April through October. Parking is available at trailheads, and pets are permitted.
