About
Espresso is a rock climbing route located in Rifle Mountain Park, near Rifle, Colorado. The site sits at an elevation of 5,285 feet and features limestone rock from the Leadville formation. The route is classified as difficult, with specific pitches ranging from 5.9 to 5.11a. It is a multi-pitch climb that begins on a large ledge approximately 50 feet above the valley floor. Climbers access the start via a fourth-class chimney or by traversing from nearby routes. The climb follows an obvious crack system that merges with the Coffee Achievers route at the top of the fourth pitch. The final section involves climbing through a chimney slot and following horizontal cracks to an easy top-out. Parking is available at the site, and pets are permitted. The area is accessible year-round, though winter conditions may include snow and ice. Rifle Mountain Park is generally crowded on weekends from May through September, but the route remains open throughout the year. The rock quality varies, with some sections described as user-friendly and endurance-focused.
