About

Free Fall is a short, expert-level mountain biking trail near Gunnison, Colorado, designed for riders seeking technical challenges rather than distance. At 0.7 miles long with an elevation of 8,165 feet, the trail is characterized by steep pitches, drops, and rock rolls. The route begins behind a feature called 'The Rocks,' climbing up magnetically grippy granite before winding through rock gardens and step-ups to a high point. From there, the trail descends through steep rollers and technical sections, including off-camber turns and loose decomposed granite, before exiting onto Road 3510. The trail is rated difficult because many sections lack easy alternative lines, and even walking the bike can be challenging. It is accessible from April through October, with parking available for riders.
