Goulding Creek Trail is a hiking route in Durango, Colorado, located within the San Juan National Forest and part of the Hermosa Creek Trail System. The trailhead is accessible via Lower Hermosa Road, north of Durango near the railroad tracks. The route climbs approximately 2,300 feet over a distance of roughly three miles one-way, or six miles round-trip. It is generally considered difficult to moderately difficult and typically takes between two hours for the one-way ascent or four hours for the full round-trip. The first 1.5 miles feature steep switchbacks, after which the trail levels out through open meadows with native plants and flowers. The path continues uphill through aspen groves to a cabin near the junction with Pinkerton-Flagstaff Trail #522. This area offers views into the Hermosa Creek Roadless Area, which serves as a summering ground for elk. Parking is available at the trailhead. The best visiting times are May through October, with September and early October offering golden aspen foliage. Trail conditions can vary, with potential snow and ice in winter months.
