Grizzly to No Name (Jess Weaver) Loop

The Grizzly to No Name Loop is an 11.5-mile difficult hike in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, connecting Grizzly Creek and No Name Creeks. The route begins at the No Name exit, follows the Glenwood Bike Path for approximately two miles to the Grizzly Creek Rest Area, and enters the upper parking lot. Hikers ascend Grizzly Creek Trail #2065 through a narrow, steep canyon with rock slide crossings. The trail ends at an old aqueduct, where a scramble over boulders leads to a creek crossing. This crossing is impassable during spring runoff and early summer due to water levels. Beyond the crossing, steep switchbacks climb to a pass through overgrown vegetation; navigation aids are helpful here. The descent follows Jessie Weaver Trail #1847 (No Name Trail) along No Name Creek, which flows year-round and is supplemented by water from Grizzly Creek. The trail returns to the Colorado River near the No Name exit. Recent reconstruction work in White River National Forest has closed portions of both trails, with closures occurring about three miles up Jessie Weaver and 0.3 miles from the trailhead on Grizzly Creek. Wildlife in the area includes bear, elk, moose, deer, and cougars. The best visiting months are April through October.
