Hartman Southeast Loop

The Hartman Southeast Loop is a 13-mile difficult mountain biking route located in the Hartman Rocks Recreation Area, just south of Gunnison, Colorado. The trail sits at an elevation of 7,710 feet and typically takes riders about four hours to complete. The route offers a cross-country feel with technical uphill sections and downhill flow, set against sagebrush and slabby granite terrain. Key segments include Outback, Dave Moe's, and Dirty Sock, which provide the most technical climbing challenges. These difficult climbs are short and walkable if necessary, often followed by rewarding descents. The trail is accessible from April through October, though specific roads south of Powerline Road (Road #3550) close until May 15 to protect Sage-grouse lekking. Riders can park at the trailhead, but there are no restrooms available. The loop is pet-friendly and generally sees fewer crowds than the north side of the recreation area.
