About
Hesperus Ski Area is a moderate difficulty ski resort located 11 miles west of Durango, Colorado, off U.S. Highway 160. The site sits at an elevation of 8,888 feet with a vertical drop of approximately 700 to 780 feet. It covers 60 skiable acres and features 26 trails served by a single double chairlift, the Bighorn lift. The area is known for offering the largest night skiing operation in Southwest Colorado, with specific pricing and hours for evening sessions on Thursday through Saturday. The typical operating season runs from November through April, supported by an average annual snowfall of 150 inches. Amenities include on-site rentals, ski and snowboard lessons, a tubing hill on Marmot Hill, a snack bar, and a lodge. Parking is available at the base. While historically a community-focused alternative to larger regional resorts, recent operational challenges including lift repairs and limited snowmaking capacity have led to closures in specific seasons, such as the 2025-26 winter. The resort remains open to uphill travel via skinning despite lift closures.
