I-70

The I-70 climbing area, also known as The Never Ending Slab, is located in Glenwood Springs on the Western Slope of Colorado. Situated just west of downtown near the South Canyon exit, this crag features slab climbing on gritty sandstone. The elevation is listed variously between 5,228 and 5,882 feet. The site is accessible year-round, with spring, fall, and cool summer mornings offering the best conditions. Routes are generally moderate to difficult, characterized by low-angle slabs and bolted protection using modern hardware. Climbers should expect pumped calves rather than hard pulling. The area is pet-friendly and offers parking at a large pullout near the creek bridge. While close to Interstate 70, noise and visibility of the highway are minimal unless standing directly on top of the slab. The rock quality is gritty, with some cobbles that may break unexpectedly, requiring respect for the soft rock. Water from Grizzly Creek is nearby, serving as a source for Glenwood Springs and emptying into the Colorado River under the I-70 bridge. The approach involves a short walk across a new bridge and up the Tramway trail.
