About
Jones Creek is a 4-mile mountain biking trail in Durango, Colorado, rated as difficult. The route is primarily an out-and-back singletrack with a total elevation gain of approximately 1,639 feet. Riders begin at the Hermosa Creek campground parking area and follow Forest Road 576 to access the trail. The climb is long but gradual, featuring rocky sections, switchbacks, and grades reaching 15 percent. The trail surface transitions from roots and rocks in the lower third to high-speed traversing with side walls in the middle, before entering a grassy meadow near the 4.5-mile mark. This junction connects to the Pinkerton-Flagstaff Trail, allowing for loop options or hike-a-bike sections along the ridge. The trail is open from April through October, though summer months may present overgrown brush in the lower half. Riders should be aware of dirt bikers using the route to access Dutch Creek and grazing cows in the meadow. Restrooms are available at the trailhead, and pets are permitted.
