About
The Kokopelli Trail Start is the western terminus of the 142-mile Kokopelli Trail, located at the Loma boat launch parking lot in Loma, Colorado. This trailhead serves as the primary access point for a route that extends to Moab, Utah, traversing the Colorado Plateau desert. The trail is primarily used for mountain biking, though it is a multi-use path allowing hiking. The surface consists mainly of old jeep roads and dirt roads, with sections of pavement and technical singletrack. The elevation starts at 4,628 feet and rises to over 8,400 feet. Parking is available at the start. Pets are permitted. The trail is accessible year-round, but conditions vary significantly by season. The desert portions are hot from June through September, while the La Sal Mountains section can be snowy from November through April. Mid-May and early October offer moderate temperatures. Water is not available along the trail, so hikers must carry their own. The trail is well-marked with brown Carsonite signposts.
