About
Le Specimen is a 75-foot sport climbing route located on the Meat Wall in Rifle Mountain Park, west of Denver. The route is graded 5.12d and features limestone rock from the Leadville formation. It was one of the first routes bolted on the Meat Wall, established in 1991. The climb is characterized by long reaches to good holds and a pumpy headwall on slopy pinches. A notable feature is the lack of glued holds, which requires careful footwork as natural holds can wear or break. The route typically requires 10 quickdraws for protection. Climbers should be aware that the bottom half of the route is often dry, but older routes in the area can suffer from grease factor due to high traffic. The area is accessible year-round, though it tends to be crowded on weekends from May through September. Parking is available at the site, and pets are permitted.
