About
Lime Creek Campground is a primitive, dispersed camping area in the San Juan National Forest near Durango, Colorado. Located along Old Lime Creek Road approximately 15 miles northeast of town, the site offers free camping with no designated plots or amenities. Visitors practice Leave No Trace principles, packing out trash and bringing their own water. The terrain is forested with elevations around 9,073 feet, providing cooler nighttime temperatures. Access requires a short drive on a dirt road that becomes rough and narrow further in, with potential rock slides. While the initial sites are accessible by standard vehicles, a high-clearance vehicle is recommended for spots beyond the first mile. Fire rings are available at established sites, and cell service varies by carrier, with T-Mobile 5G coverage reported. The campground is open May through September and accommodates tents, RVs, and pets.
