About

Malmsteen is a sport climbing route located in Rifle Mountain Park, specifically within the G3 climbing sector on the west side of the canyon. The route is rated 5.10d and is characterized as a sport climb. It is situated at an elevation of 5,059 feet. Access requires parking at the Feline parking lot, which accommodates approximately eight vehicles and is located on the left side of the road past a small bridge, just before the bend. Climbers must hike downstream for about 30 seconds to locate a flat stone stepped trail on the left that leads to the climb. The area features east-facing walls, providing morning shade and afternoon sun. Parking is available, and the site is pet-friendly. The climbing season extends from January to December, though conditions vary by season: winter brings cold temperatures, spring may feature seeps that dry with sun exposure, summer offers shade until early afternoon, and fall conditions resemble summer but with less heat.
