About

Matterhorn Campground is a developed site in the Uncompahgre National Forest, located on Colorado State Highway 145 near Ophir and Telluride. The campground sits at an elevation of approximately 9,500 feet. It contains 28 campsites arranged in a loop. Four sites offer RV hookups with electricity and septic connections, supporting vehicles up to 45 feet in length. Most outer sites are wooded, while inner sites are more open. The campground provides potable water, flush toilets, and showers available to both overnight and day-use guests. All sites include picnic tables, combination fire rings with grills, and lantern poles. Firewood is available for purchase. Lake Fork Creek runs past the campground. The Galloping Goose Trail #449, an 8.4-mile route past a restored train trestle, is accessible from the site. Nearby activities include hiking and fishing. The Lizard Head Wilderness is located about 3 miles away. The site is open from May through September, with current conditions indicating availability of water and services.
