About

Meadow Loop is a 1.3-mile moderate hiking trail located in Horse Gulch Park, immediately east of Durango on the Western Slope. The trail begins at the Horse Gulch Trailhead, where parking is available on a 4x4 wheel drive road. Hikers can traverse the loop in either direction, though most proceed counter-clockwise. The route is a singletrack path with some loose and rocky sections, making hiking shoes advisable. It connects to the broader Horse Gulch Trail System, providing access to longer routes like Telegraph Trail and Mike's Loop. The trail allows leashed dogs and bicycles but excludes motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles. Elevation ranges from approximately 6,811 to 7,044 feet with a gain of about 236 to 265 feet. The trail is open year-round, though summer heat and lack of shade require hydration and sun protection. Wildflowers are present in warmer months, offering views of open meadow space.
