The Mt. Sneffels Trailhead near Ridgway provides access to the western ridge route of Mount Sneffels, a 14,153-foot fourteener in the Uncompahgre National Forest. This hike is classified as moderate and typically takes about 2 hours, though terrain variability can extend time. The trail is open from September through November, a period when early snow dustings and golden aspens highlight the rugged terrain. The route is approximately 13.5 miles roundtrip with 5,000 feet of elevation gain, ending at the summit. Hikers should expect limited parking, as the trail has grown in popularity. The access road, County Road 7, is rough and may require an SUV or high-clearance vehicle. Restrooms and parking are available at the trailhead. Pets are permitted. Cell service is limited to the peak, primarily with Verizon. No fees or permits are currently required, though a permit system is under discussion.
