About
Oh Be Joyful Recreation Area is a 30-unit BLM campground located approximately five miles from Crested Butte, Colorado, along the Slate River. The site sits at roughly 9,000 feet elevation in a valley defined by the river and adjacent mountains. Access requires driving down BLM Road 3220, a steep, rough dirt road that can be rutted and muddy, potentially challenging for low-clearance vehicles. The campground features 14 RV sites and 15 walk-in tent sites, plus a group campsite. Each site includes a parking space, metal fire ring, picnic table, tent pad, and a bear-proof food storage locker. Facilities include three vault toilets. Drinking water, electric hookups, and trash service are not provided, so visitors must bring their own water and pack out their trash. Cell service is generally unavailable. The area is known for wildflowers, including columbine and Indian paintbrush, and nearby waterfalls on Oh Be Joyful Creek. A footbridge provides access to the west bank for hiking into the Raggeds Wilderness. Cattle may enter the camping area. Reservations are required and can be made up to 180 days in advance.
