About
Priest Lake Campground is a dispersed camping area in the Uncompahgre National Forest, located approximately 8 miles south of Telluride on State Highway 145. The site sits at an elevation of roughly 9,600 feet and consists of nine designated campsites. Access requires traveling south on Highway 145, turning left onto County Road 63A, and proceeding north on Forest Road 628 for half a mile. The roads within the campground are described as rough and rocky, making them suitable for tents and smaller RVs but generally unsuitable for trailers due to limited parking and turnaround space. A vault restroom is available on-site, but there are no other developed services; visitors must pack in and pack out. The campground is open from May through September, provided roads are accessible. Activities at the site include limited fishing in the small, man-made lake and access to the nearby Galloping Goose Trail for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking. The area is pet-friendly.
