The Red Hill Special Recreation Management Area in Carbondale, Colorado, is a red-rock landscape located at the intersection of Highway 82 and Highway 133. The area features a network of hiking and mountain biking trails spanning 2 to 12 miles round trip. The primary access point is a large parking lot at the main Carbondale stoplight on Highway 82; hikers head up Red Hill Road (CR 107) for approximately 0.25 miles to the marked trailhead. The area is known for views of Mt. Sopris and the town of Carbondale, particularly from Mushroom Rock and the ridge. Popular routes include Three Gulch, Blue Ribbon, and Mushroom Rock. The area is pet-friendly with dogs required to be on leash. Some trails, including Elk Traverse, Northside Loop, Outer Loop, and Sage Loop, experience seasonal closures from December 1 to April 15 for wildlife habitat preservation. The terrain consists of red sandstone and clay dirt, with trails varying in steepness and difficulty.
