Reptilicus (The Crock)

Reptilicus, also known as The Crock, is a difficult traditional rock climb located in Telluride, Colorado. Situated at an elevation of 6313 feet, the route spans approximately 120 feet (36 meters). The climb begins in a large, left-facing dihedral just uphill from the Javelin route. Climbers navigate physically demanding sections characterized by large hand to fist jams, utilizing techniques such as offwidthing, chimneying, and stemming. After the dihedral, a ledge provides a rest before the route breaks right on a short ramp or arete. The finish involves pulling an easy roof and trending left along an obvious flake to anchors above. First ascended by John Long and Lynn Hill in 1980, the route is rated 5.10d. Protection requires specific gear sizes, including #3s for the initial dihedral and nuts or smaller cams higher up. Parking is available on site, and pets are permitted.
