About
Roaring Judy Trail 552 is a difficult mountain biking route located in the Crested Butte and Gunnison area of Western Colorado. The trail sits at an elevation between 9,157 and 10,771 feet. It begins at the end of Forest Service Road 813.2A and ends where it intersects with Cement Mountain Trail 553. Riders typically access the trail by riding up FS 813.2A or connecting from the Cement Mountain Trail. The route is ridden primarily in a downhill direction, requiring an initial climb to reach the start point. The trail surface consists of decomposed granite and soil. The terrain features variable rockiness, with loose rocks and roots in the initial descent through a pine forest. The trail then opens onto a steep hillside traverse where boulders may be present. Navigation can be challenging due to minimal traffic and thick undergrowth in certain sections. The trail is generally open from April through October. Current conditions depend on weather, with the best riding window typically occurring between 8 AM and 8 PM when temperatures are cooler and dirt conditions are optimal. Parking is available at the trailhead. The route is pet friendly.
