About
San Juan Skyway is a rock climbing area in Durango, Colorado, located on the Western Slope at 6,895 feet elevation. The site offers easy routes suitable for various skill levels. A specific sport route, established in 2014 by I. Altman and K. Allinger, features a 65-foot pink quartzite face with lime green lichen. Climbers can follow the exposed arete for a challenge around 5.8 grade or use the lower angled slope to the left. The route is protected by seven bolts and faces east. Parking is available, and the area is pet-friendly. Access is year-round, though spring brings unpredictable snow and mud while summer offers mild days with afternoon thunderstorms. Winter conditions can be harsh, and the nearby road network includes steep grades and switchbacks. The climbing area is situated near landmarks such as Winnebago Warrior and Euro Vision.
