About
Sex Machine is a sport climbing route located in Rifle Mountain Park, west of Denver on the Western Slope. The route is classified as difficult and sits at an elevation of 5,324 feet. It features approximately 80 feet of solid limestone rock with crimpers, side pulls, and polished surfaces. The climb is described as very continuous 5.11 grade, which tests finger strength. First ascended by Rob Floyd in 1995, the route runs parallel to another line called 80 Feet of Meat. Climbers should be aware that some rock quality can be occasionally dubious. The area offers parking in designated spots and allows pets. Access requires a daily or season pass, which must be purchased before climbing. The park is open year-round, though it sees significant traffic on weekends between May and September. The rock type is limestone from the Leadville formation, known for high-quality sport climbing in North America. Equipment needed includes about a dozen quickdraws and a rope.
