About
Sidewinder is a multi-use trail in the Grandview Ridge system near Durango, Colorado, primarily used for mountain biking, hiking, and trail running. The trail connects the top of the Yellow Brick Road trail to Carbon Junction, serving as an extension for the broader Grandview Ridge and Horse Gulch trail networks. It is characterized as an intermediate, 'swoopy' singletrack that climbs along a sunny, mostly shade-less ridgeline before descending. Hikers and riders pass through scrub oak and may encounter eroded sections. The trail ascends northwards before turning west to intersect with Telegraph and Crite's Connect trails. Parking is available at Carbon Junction, accessed via Dominguez Drive off Highway 160 East. While some sources list the trail as a short 2-mile easy route with minimal elevation gain, the official Durango Trails website describes it as a 3.3-mile moderate trail with 506 feet of gain. The trail is open to non-motorized use year-round, though conditions can vary.
